Paul English Music presents SINGERS SHOWCASE in the Jazz Nights at Canopy series. Sample the vocal stylings of three uniquely different singers as Cecy Duarte, Elisha Jordan and Megan Stapleton tag-team at the mic. The trio will also team up for a few tight-harmony trios reminiscent of an era gone by. We invite you mark your calendars and reserve your table. Les Plaisirs de Versailles - Ars Lyrica

September 9, 2016 Place: Zilkha Hall at The Hobby Center

Ars Lyrica’s 2016/17 season opens with a trip to Versailles, where French kings and their courtiers cultivated pleasures of all kinds, including musical follies. Marc-Antoine Charpentier's witty chamber Opera pairs nicely with motets, drinking songs, and chamber works by François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau, for a sumptuous and quinessentially French musical feast. Unusual for its era, Les Plaisirs de Versailles is a comedy - and an ode to both wine and chocolate! (Quoted from the 2016-2017 Ars Lyrica brochure.)

Testament - World Premier

The Sam Houston State University Percussion Department presents a recital debuting B.P. Herrington's new work, "Testament," written for three percussionists and soprano.  This beautiful piece features text by Houston poet, Carolyn Adams, and music by composer and SHSU professor, Brian Herrington.
